I 1850’erne blev kurvemøbler fast interiør på det velhavende borgerskabs kursteder og badehoteller. I løbet af 1900-tallet fandt møblerne vej til danske hjem som arkitekttegnede møbler og indskrev sig i historien om ’Danish Modern’. Og for mange danskere rimer kurvemøbler på de klassiske danske sommerhuse, siden møblerne i 1950’erne blev fast interiør i sommerlandets sorte træhuse. I 1970’erne blev kurvemøbler fortrængt af nye måder at indrette sig på. Stål og plastik fandt vej til danske hjem, og kurvemøblerne rykkede igen ud i havestuen og i de sommerhuse, som i mellemtiden var blevet populære i takt med, at danskerne fik bil og mere fritid. Som denne bog viser, har kurvemøbler i dag fået en renæssance som vintagemøbler og som nyproducerede møbler fra Østen. Birgit Lyngbye Pedersen, født 1961, er designhistoriker, billedredaktør og medforfatter til flere bøger, bl.a. om møbelarkitekten Finn Juhl.
